TOPIC 3 : Memory,Learning & Improving Concentration

 What is the meaning of memory ?

Memory means the capacity for or the act of remembering,or the thing remembered.Memory is really important to all of us.Without a good memory,our lifestyle will be affected.Memory applies both to the power of remembering and to what is remembered.Memory allow us to grow and learn to be a better person.Some people don't know that there are different types of memory.


What are the types of memory ? 

- Working memory 

Working memory is the small amount of information that can be held in mind and used in the execution of cognitive tasks.The example of working memory is holding a person's address in mind while listening to instructions about how to get there.

- Sensory memory

Sensory memory is the perception of sight,hearing,smell,taste, and touch information entering through the sensory cortices of the brain and relaying through the thalamus.The example of sensory memory is the storage of information that we receive from our senses

- Short-term memory

Short-term memory means systems which provide retention of limited amounts of material for a limited time period.the example of short-term memory include where you parked your car this morning,where you eat yesterday and what pages of book that you read recently.

- Long-term memory

Long-term memory means the memory process in the brain that takes information from the short-term memory store and creates long-lasting memories.The example of long-term memory include recollection of an important dayin the distanst past and work skills you learned in your first job out of school.  


Memory strategies

Many students having problem on their academic because they need to memorize mass amounts of information.Memorizing mass amounts of things can be really difficult and can make you frustrating.Many students feel like they simply do not have strong memory skills.Fortunately,memorizing is not just for an elite group of people born with the right skills,anyone can train and develop their memorizing skills.Here are the strategies on how you can improve your memorizing skills:

- Try to understand the information first.Information that is organized and makes sense to you is easier to memorize.If you find that you don't understand the material,spend some time on understanding it before trying to memorize it.

- Self-test.Quiz yourself every so often by actively recalling the information you are trying to study.Make sure to actively quiz yourself,do not simply reread notes or a textbook.

- Use distributed practice.For a concept to move from your temporary working memory to your long-term memory,two things need to happen: the concept should be memorable and it should be repeated.

- Write it out.Writing appears to help us more deeply encode information that we're trying to learn because there is a direct connection between our hand and our brain.Try writing your notes by hand during a lecture or rewriting and reorganizing notes or information by hand after a lecture.


Organizational Strategies

What is the meaning of organizational strategies? An organizational strategy is a long-term plan that allocates how a company plans to use its resources to support business activities.It serves as guidance for how a company can achieve its objectives.Companies use these strategies to help them meet their goals and develop strategic plans.Here are the types of organizational strategy:

- Organizational design.Design and structure the organization to fit the required business model and strategy.

- Organizational capabilities.Develop and implement talent development and acquisition plans to build and assure requisite capabilities.

- Talent management.Establish a platform of best practises that support and motivate the creation of a high performance commitment workforce good enough to achieve required goals.

- Organizational culture.Develop a high performance operating environment that fits the standards,values and requirements of the business.

- Organizational Effectiveness.Create a cohesive,integrated organization centrally focused on achieving desired outcomes.

Understanding concentration

Concentration means the action on focusing all one's attention.Based on science,concentration is the amount of a substance,such as a salt,that is in a certain amount of tissue or liquid,such as blood.


Strategies for improving concentration

There are so many ways on how to improve concentration.Here are some of the ways on how you can improve the concentration:

- Train your brain by playing certain types of games can help get better concentration.

- Get enough sleep.

- Spend time in nature.

- Make time for exercise.

- Listen to music.


Concentration Chart

Concentration chart is one of the method that helps us in managing our time wisely.We will know which time and how much period of time we need to study so we can take breaks and do other beneficial stuff when our concentration is low.
